Mildly Humbling

Yesterday:  Morning run of 6 miles plus 6 strides.  Just easy to ‘race prep’
Today: THE RACE
First time since college
First half marathon.  Ever.
First mile: 5:46.  Second: 5:42.
A bit on the quick side.  I had been telling myself beforehand about how I couldn’t get caught up in the race, and it was all about just pacing and [...]

Sluggish

Yesterday I did Yoga.  It always makes me way more sore than I think it will.  Like, I do it to work on flexibility, but there’s a definite strength component that I’m never prepared for.
Today I ran abou10 miles.  Felt a bit sluggish but I don’t think the pace really suffered.  Its probably just all [...]

Rough patch

So
Wednesday: off, unplanned
Thursday: off, unplanned
Friday: meant to run, biked ~15 on the Oberlin bike path instead
Saturday: ran 10.5 around big res and some by the other res and such.  It was wicked hot, and I thought I was going to die.  But not too bad overall.
Sunday: off, unplanned (Conor was supposed to call me but [...]

Zoo animals!

So Corey was still here today.  We ran about 7 miles along the river trail.  It was an out and back… to the zoo!  So it was a punctuated 7 miles, with like an hour of animal watching in the middle, but it was a lot of fun.  Not quite the serious miles that I’ve [...]

Corey!

A little less than 6 miles today with the one and only Corey Z Squire!  He’s up visiting before he hits up Oberlin for commencement.  This brings 2 things to mind.  1) Lansing sucks.  A lot.  2) Running with people > running alone.  I mean obviously its good that its Corey instead of some random [...]

The rebirth of the long run

Today 11.5 miles.  Felt great, sub 6:30 pace the whole time with no issue.  I’m pretty confident now that my half marathon will go fine.  I’m not really planning to race it, just run fast enough that I get into the A corral at Chicago.  Really takes the pressure off, though I won’t win the [...]

-2 frisbee golf

Yesterday was my off day for the week.  It felt nice.  Instead of running I tried to do karaoke with my brother in law and his co-workers but the DJ ‘lost’ at least 4 of our slips of paper.  I suspect he didn’t want us to go on, knowing that we’d rock the house and [...]

Not quite

Okay so due to inclement weather (and a foul mood from a day at work) I didn’t take on the 3×1 mi @ I pace workout I said I was going to. In fact, I almost didn’t run. Then at 5:50 I decided that I needed to run to fix the mood (it worked). Anyways, [...]

Let’s get caught up

So… I passed my Preliminary Oral Examination on May 6th! Other than that I have really bombed the last week+.
Running has been really sporadic with little motivation (even with a 5k race coming up next weekend). Since my last post I have run:
May 6: 3 miles easy in the morning to “calm my nerves” (it [...]

Figured it out

Yesterday just an uneventful 7.5
Today I went back to the neighborhood I got lost in a few days ago to try to figure it out.  I promptly got lost again.  But this time I paid enough heed to the street signs that when I got back I was able to look at a map and [...]
